Auto-Responders
Go Back

Introduction:
If you are responding to the same type of email on a daily basis or if you would like to add an automatic response to emails sent to a specific domain address, you can accomplish such tasks using the "auto-responder" feature.

Example:
Let's say you wanted to send information about your services to anyone that sends email to, info@your_domain. The auto-responder will automatically send a response to these incoming emails. If the recipient wishes to reply to an auto-response, his/her email will be forwarded to another address specified by you.

Remember each email address can only be either a POP account, a forwarder or an auto-responder.  An email address that is specified as an auto-responder, CANNOT also be an email forwarder or a POP account.

How to Use Auto-Responders

Autoresponder can be setup from within your Account Control Panel, under "Email Setup"
You will need to prepare the following information prior to invoking the autoresponder:

  1. the path name of a text file with the email message you want (ie: /htdocs/test.txt) which the autoresponder will send out upon request. (This path should be relative to your home directory)

  2. the username to which requests are made (For example, the username for the address info@yourdomain.com, is "info")

  3. the reply to email address to which further requests can be directed

  4. The subject of the autoresponder email

  5. optionally, the email address to forward the original request to

Setting Up an Auto Responder

  1. Click on the "select file" link to select a txt file for your autoresponder message, the file should appear within your "file to send" box.

  2. Under the heading titled, @yourdomain.com, fill-in the email address which will handle incoming autoresponder requests.

  3. Enter "Reply to" the appropriate email address from (3) above.

  4. Enter the Subject of the Auto-responder email

  5. Optionally, enter "Who to notify" with the email address from (5).

In the following example, emails addressed to "info@yourdomain.com" will receive an auto-response via email, including the content of the file named, "services.txt". If the recipient replies to the auto-response, the message will be delivered to the address "sales@yourdomain.com".
